Remark I.

The civil military alphabet is older than ecclesiastic; 250 years before Christ, Pharnavaz the first King of Sakarthvelo revised the faith religion of the fire worshippers; to write the sacred books of this religion he introduced the ancient Persian alphabet, i.e. Zeud or Pehlavi: this shows therefore that our civil military letters alphabet partly resembles the old Persian and the name even is a translation of the word Pehlavi from the Persian of the word Pehlavi, i.e. palavnuri (heroic) or mkhedruli (military, warlike). The ecclesiastic alphabet was introduced in the time of King Archil I (410 A.D.) by Mesrop, patriarch of Armenia; they resemble the Ethiopian and Armenian letters. Formerly, the words were written with capital letters; afterwards they invented the ecclesiastic and both i.e. capitals cursive letters formed from the military alphabet and both, i.e. capitals and cursive letters they change an incomplete circle into an incomplete circle, this is seen in the following letters: Ⴁ ბ Ⴇ თ etc. The reason for the change of letters was the introduction of Christianity; the Christians did not wish that idolatry should be kept in remembrance, therefore they destroyed the use of the military alphabet in sacred writings. The military alphabet was only used in general writings and numerals.

Remark II.

The Georgian is complete, so that each letter has an appointed place.

Over time, the shape of the letters became circular. The following letters — ჭ, ძ, ც — arose from this transition.

The reason for the change in letterforms was tied to the introduction of Christianity. The Christians did not wish the pagan idols of antiquity to be remembered, so they destroyed...
